After selecting a Service, you'll choose one or more Output Formats to determine how your documentation will be structured.
While the Service defines the type of appointment you're documenting, the Output Format determines how the final document is organized and written.
Choose the Output Format that best matches the documentation you need for that session. Depending on your organization's configuration, you may also see custom Output Formats in addition to the standard note types.
What Happens After You Select an Output Format?
Once selected, AutoNotes uses the Output Format to:
Structure your documentation into the appropriate sections.
Apply the AI instructions configured for that Output Format.
Generate the note using the selected tone, writing style, and clinical framework.
Include any custom sections or formatting you've configured.
The available Output Formats are determined by the Service you've selected, so you will only see formats that have been assigned to that service.
Generate Multiple Output Formats
You can generate more than one document for the same session.
For example, you might generate both a SOAP Note and a DAP Note, or a Progress Note and a Medical Necessity Statement, without re-entering your session information.
Simply select the additional Output Formats before generating your note, or use + Add Note after your first note has been created to generate additional documentation for the same session.
Don't See the Output Format You're Looking For?
The list of available Output Formats depends on the Service you've selected. If an Output Format isn't assigned to that service, it won't appear when creating a note.
To make an Output Format available, you can either:
Navigate to Settings → Services and edit the desired service, or
From the Note Editor, click Edit next to the selected Service to open its settings.
Under the service's Output Formats library, add the Output Format you'd like to use and save your changes.
Once assigned, the Output Format will become available whenever that service is selected for future sessions.
